PSL 2020: Match 27, Peshawar Zalmi vs Multan Sultans – A close win for Multan Sultans, Sohail Tanvir’s milestone and more stats

Multan Sultans continued their unbeaten run in the PSL 2020 as they edged past Peshawar Zalmi by three runs on Friday night. Zeeshan Ashraf’s 39-ball 52 put the Multan team on course for a 175+ total. However, post his dismissal, the Sultans struggled to get going and were limited to 154/6. Zalmi lost a couple of early wickets but Imam-ul-Haq’s 41-ball 56 put the team on the top in the chase. The game turned into Sultans’ hands when Imam was dismissed with Peshawar needing 29 from 21 balls.

A narrow win for the Sultans:

3 – The 3-run win in this match is Multan Sultans’ narrowest win in terms of runs in the PSL. They never won by a margin less than 15 runs while batting first.

This 3-run defeat also stands among top three narrowest defeats of Peshawar Zalmi in this league. Quetta Gladiators defeated Zalmi by 1-run margin during the 2016 and 2017 edition games.

Multan’s unbeaten streak:

6 – Multan Sultans now have spent six consecutive matches without a defeat which includes a washed-out game. This is the joint-longest unbeaten streak for any team in the Pakistan Super League.

Islamabad United won across 2016 and 2017 editions and also won six in a row during the 2018 edition including a Super over win that marked the start of the streak.

4-2 – Multan now has defeated Peshawar Zalmi four times in six meetings in the PSL. Sultans won both the matches against Zalmi in 2018 and 2020 season while Peshawar won twice in 2019.

Lowest target Peshawar failed to chase:

155 – The target of 155 in this match is the lowest that Peshawar Zalmi failed to chase down successfully in a Pakistan Super League game. The previous lowest was 159 against Islamabad United in 2019 where they lost the game by 12 runs.

Tanvir @ 350 wickets:

351 – The 3-wicket haul in this game helped Sohail Tanvir go past 350 wickets in the Twenty20 format. Tanvir is now the first player from Pakistan to achieve this milestone. He is also only the 3rd pace bowler after Dwayne Bravo (497) and Lasith Malinga (390) to complete 350 T20 wickets.

Masood @ 1000:

1016 – Shan Masood completed 1000 runs in the Twenty20 format during this match. Masood needed 48 innings for this milestone scoring a hundred and two fifties.

Wahab promotes himself:

1 – For the first time in his PSL career, Wahab Riaz batted as high as No.3 position. This was overall the 6th instance of Wahab batting at No.3 in Twenty20s out of which four times came during the 2018 T20 Blast.
