Fakhar Zaman has become the first Pakistani batsman in the history of ODI cricket to score a double-century. Zaman achieved this feat against Zimbabwe in the fourth ODI of the series at Bulawayo.

Batting first after winning the toss, Pakistan were assisted by a record-breaking opening stand of 304 between Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq, as the Zimbabwean bowlers took a pounding. Zaman got to his double-century off a mere 148 balls while Pakistan created another record by finishing on 399/1 from their 50 overs, their highest ever ODI score.

This was Zaman’s third ODI century and the second of the series, having also smashed a ton in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy to win Pakistan the tournament.

Zaman now averages 75.38 in ODI cricket which, among those who have played at least five games, is the highest ever in ODI cricket. Asif Ali, who also smashed his way to a half-century in this game, now averages 96 from four matches but he’s scored just 96 runs in his career so far.

In his 17 innings so far, Zaman has also had only one score in single-digits, striking at nearly 100 every innings which makes it a rather impressive start to his career.

Pakistan will hope Zaman’s form can continue right through to the 2019 World Cup, which will be played in the UK, the location of his first ever ODI hundred. They currently lead the series 3-0 and should be able to complete a whitewash of a rather dull Zimbabwe side which is without half of their key players in this series.
